2023 Lexus NX Review

It hasn’t even been a decade since its launch but the Lexus NX is still one of the best-selling compact crossovers in the premium segment. This is because it offers the luxury and functionality that none of its rivals do.

The following is a review of its latest model, the 2023 Lexus NX:

Features

The Lexus NX is currently in its 2nd generation which was released about a year ago. It features 5 trim levels and 4 engine options – two of which are hybrid. There haven’t been any updates for this model year.

Powertrain and Numbers

The Lexus NX250 2023 comes with a 2.5-liter 4-cylinder engine that makes 203 hp and 184 lb-ft. The 2023 NX350h features a 2.5-liter hybrid engine that produces 240 hp and 167 lb-ft. The 2023 NX350 and NX350 F Sport have the 2.4-liter 4-cylinder good for 275 hp and 317 lb-ft.

The 2023 NX450h+ models come with a plug-in hybrid setup; a 2.5-liter engine that produces 304 hp and 167 lb-ft. As far as the transmission is concerned, the gas models feature an 8-speed auto while the hybrid engines are paired to a CVT.

The 2023 Lexus NX is a quick car – its NX450h+ models can accelerate from 0 to 62 mph in just about 6 seconds. Its quickest gas models aren’t too shabby either as they can do the same in about half a second more.

Also, just because this is a luxury CUV, it doesn’t mean that it cannot get its hands dirty. The 2023 Lexus NX can also be used for trailering as it has a maximum towing capacity of 2000 lbs. It can also haul a payload of up to 895 lbs.

The NX models are also quite fuel efficient, with the NX450h+ models being able to do up to 84 MPGe. The next best in this regard are the 2023 NX350 and the NX350 F Sport, which will do up to 39 mpg combined. The base model gets a fuel economy of 28 mpg combined.

Interior and Technology

The Lexus NX 2023 has an interior that’s certainly worthy of a Lexus car. It looks quite stylish and the quality of the materials used is superb. There’s ample room in both rows, so all five occupants should be able to sit quite comfortably.

But the functionality doesn’t end there as the 2023 NX also offers a decent amount of storage space for its class. You can increase the trunk space by folding down the second row of seats. You can upgrade to a hands-free powered tailgate for better access.

2023 Lexus NX250
The entry-level NX model is anything but basic as it comes with many niceties. You get a lovely stippled black interior, plus a leather-trimmed steering wheel and shift knob. There’s dual-zone climate control, push-button ignition, a 7-inch instrumentation screen, and remote start.

The front seats are heated and they have 8-way power adjustability. The infotainment system is based on a 9.8-inch touchscreen mated to 10 speakers. Wireless connectivity is offered with Android and Apple phones.

Lexus doesn’t let you down in terms of safety either. The 2023 NX250 comes with automated emergency braking (w/pedestrian detection), adaptive cruise control, blind-spot monitoring (w/rear-cross traffic alerts), and lane-departure warning (w/lane-keeping assist).

In terms of features, the NX350h and NX350 are similar to the aforementioned model. You do get an upgraded powertrain along with some cool new options.

This is the first of the tortwo F Sport models which means that it is sure to have custom F Sport details. You get an F Sport perforated leather-trimmed steering wheel and shift knob, aluminum pedals, and heated front seats (w/enhanced bolsters).

To know about your vehicle’s performance better, you can check out the now-standard 10-inch head-up display, plus the displays for the g-force and turbo-boost. The dark graphite aluminum trim is also there to complement everything nicely.

2023 Lexus NX450h+
This model is even more upscale as you now get a black open-pore wood trim and perforated leather-trimmed interior with unique chevron seat quilting. The front seats are now ventilated and the driver gets memory settings for their seat.

This model features a powered moonroof and liftgate as well. The infotainment system receives an upgrade in the form of a massive 14-inch infotainment screen. The safety department gets even better thanks to a parking assist system (w/automated emergency braking).

And yes, the powertrain is upgraded as well.

Exterior and Driving

The 2023 Lexus NX has an aggressive, yet posh look. It comes with bi-LED headlights and stylish 18-inch wheels. As you move up the trims, you get 20-inch ones with varying designs and finishes. The F Sport models come with many unique components and badging.

Reliability and Warranty

Consumer Reports expects the 2023 Lexus NX to be more reliable than average, while JD Power describes its reliability as ‘Fair’. The reviews from its existing owners are positive in this regard as well.

You also get warranties to cover you in case trouble decides to brew. The limited one is good for 4 years/50k miles, while the one for the powertrain components is good for 6 years/70k miles. The hybrid models get an additional 8 years/100k miles.

Verdict

The 2023 Lexus NX is then a must-have if you’re looking for a high-end small crossover. It looks and drives well, and is loaded with technology and luxury. It is also a very versatile vehicle in terms of its offerings, so there’s one available for every consumer out there.
