2023 Honda Civic

The Lexus RX is where the premium crossover segment emerged from as it is a pioneer of luxury. However, this CUV is more than just a fashion statement, it is also known for its high practicality and efficiency. The 2022 RX450h is a prime example of this, being considered one of the highlights of the 2022 RX catalog. The following is a review of its highlights:

Features

The 2022 Lexus RX450h is a part of the 4th generation of the RX series from the luxury automaker. The RX450h is the entry-level hybrid model and is second overall in the trim hierarchy.

The new 450h has a whole suite of safety features along with other luxury amenities. The add-ons for 2022 include some changes to the exterior in the form of fog lights and some new color options.

Powertrain and Numbers

The 2022 Lexus RX450h features a 3.5-liter V6 engine with 259 hp that works in unison with a pair of electric motors and a 1.872kWh battery. The result of this partnership is a combined power output of 308 hp and 247 lb-ft. This is sent to all four wheels via an eCVT gearbox.

As a result of this setup, the 2022 RX450h has a 0 to 62 mph acceleration time of almost 7.5 seconds. Despite this vehicle being a luxury car, it also manages to have a knack for towing and hauling. It can tow up to 3500 lbs and has a maximum payload capacity of 1257 lbs. Again, all of these numbers are solid for its class.

The fuel economy for the RX450h 2022 makes it the thriftiest in the whole RX lineup and one of the best in the small premium CUV category. The EPA says that it will manage up to 31 mpg in the city and 28 on the highway. It will provide you with a total range of 516 miles.

Interior and Technology

The 2022 RX450h, like every Lexus ever, features an attractive interior design with only the finest materials being used throughout the cabin. The cabin is quite roomy and the seating available for 5 to 6 people is quite comfy.

The storage is also one of the best in the luxury crossover class. Of course, there is an adequate number of cubbies, compartments, and pockets, but the real highlight is the large trunk. You can add to it by folding the second row of seats.

The features list is quite extensive for any luxury brand. The seats and the upholstery are wrapped in synthetic leather. You also get a leather shift knob and steering wheel. Also included are textured trim pieces made of wood and metal, and many soft-touch components.

Some of the standard amenities include dual-zone automatic climate control, keyless entry, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, and a powered moonroof. You also receive 10-way power adjustable front seats that are heated, plus a power liftgate for easy loading access.

The infotainment offers an 8-inch touchscreen with a powerful 9-speaker stereo system. Android Auto and Apple CarPlay are standard offerings as well as several power outlets and some USB ports –  all of which enhance connectivity.

There is a large suite of standard safety systems. You get adaptive cruise control, blind spot (w/rear cross traffic monitoring), front collision warning (w/automatic emergency braking), lane departure warning (w/lane keep assist), road sign recognition, and more.

Exterior and Driving

On the outside, the RX models come with bold stylings that are very striking and eye-catching. The 450h, in particular, has LED headlamps and taillamps, 18-inch alloys, body-colored door handles, and a rear spoiler.

The colors on the 2022 Lexus RX450h are the following:

  • Atomic Silver
  • Matador Red Mica
  • Caviar
  • Eminent White Pearl
  • Nebula Gray Pearl
  • Ultra White
  • Nightfall Mica
  • Nori Green Pearl
  • Grecian Water

All of the RX models drive like a dream and so this includes the RX450h as well. The testers say that it feels very controlled on the bends and turns. The vehicle is known for its smooth ride, especially on blemished roadways. The cabin’s noise cancellation is also to be praised for eliminating all sorts of unwanted sounds from the road and the tires.

Because of the car’s all-wheel-drive system, it can even help you have fun on the trail.

Reliability and Warranty

Once again, like all of its RX siblings, the RX450h also gets a score of 85 out of 100 in predicted reliability from JD Power. This means that it lies in their ‘Great’ category. Consumer Reports has also called it more reliable than the other new cars of the year. Both consumer organizations have ranked the 2022 Lexus RX as their midsize SUV of the year, and the 450h is their favorite.

There are three warranties offered by Lexus and they’re some of the best in the luxury segment. The limited warranty covers 4 years/50k miles, the powertrain warranty’s good for 6 years/70k miles, and the hybrid components warranty for 8 years/100k miles. They’re also one of the select few automakers that give you complimentary maintenance, for 1 year/10k miles.

Verdict

The 2022 Lexus RX450h continues to uphold the RX name as a leader in the premium crossover category. As always, it can do it all – it has an efficient engine, excellent driving capabilities, and a plush cabin loaded with the latest high-tech features. There are several options to personalize the interior trim.

You can also expect quick acceleration and athleticism from the 450h. It is also able to get its hands dirty when it comes to towing and hauling. On top of all that, it is a reliable vehicle that has been ranked at the top and praised by several automotive experts. You also get comped for the maintenance by the professionals at Lexus themselves.
